5 Steps to Building Your Business

Who Do You Know?

One of the greatest forms of financial leverage is your contact file.  Who you know and who knows you can open doors for you that can save you years of hard work. The quality and quantity of your contacts and your relationship with them may have more to do with the success of your business than any other factor. In order to expand your contact file start with a list of the 20 people you feel it would be most useful for you to get to know. Create a strategy to get to meet everyone of them over the next 12 months. Then make a list of 20 more.

 

Network, Network, Network

Use every opportunity you can to network.  Join business groups and trade associations. Attend meetings. Get involved. Volunteer for committees and trade shows.  Get to know local business organizations. These are just some of the things you can do to double your business contacts and marketing efforts.

Volunteer – Be of Service

Getting involved in community service organizations is an essential part of successful business growth. The best people in every community, the people you should know and who should know you, are usually involved in public service and volunteerism in some way.  Start by getting involved in a charity that you care about or that you’re interested in. You’ll be amazed at the quality of people that you’ll meet doing voluntary service.

Don’t Underestimate Your Creativity

One underestimated form of leverage is your creativity.  Just one new idea is all you need to jump start a new product or marketing campaign. Everyone has the ability to come up with creative ideas and solutions if they look for them. All great fortunes begin with an idea.  Creative ideas can come from the most unlikely situations, so keep your eyes and minds open.  Being a part of a Mastermind Group is one way to leverage your creative as well as that of others.

Create Good Work Habits

Perhaps, the most powerful form of business leverage is good work habits. Good work habits can make all difference in a successful business. In a recent study, more than 100 CEO’s, they all agreed that the ability to set goals and priorities, and then get the job done well, were the qualities that most readily led to increased revenues. Good work habits bring you to the attention of the important people in your circle of influence.  In the final analysis, you always get rewarded for your results. If you develop a reputation for being the person who gets the job done well and fast, that alone can put you onto the fast track in your business.
